# Report 2018-2019

Jagex recognises the importance of a diverse workforce that reflects our player base of millions around the world, and we are committed to promoting fairness and equality in the workplace.

We’re encouraged by the progress we have made in this area, as highlighted by a significant narrowing of our gender pay gap to 12.2%, down from 28.1% in the previous year. This represents a very positive swing, and we hope to see this reflected not just at Jagex but in the games industry and technology sector as a whole. This swing is attributable to a number of factors including a higher representation of women hired into senior positions and an overall increase in the number of women hired for open roles (more than 25%). Due to shifts in hiring needs and more niche industry specific roles, we expect to see our gender pay gap increase again next year. This is not ideal, but we are confident the pay gap will stabilise at well below our 2017-2018 report.

We have previously stated that we have a joint responsibility, with our industry peers and the government, to encourage and attract more women into the gaming industry, and to the technology sector, so that in time we can address the gap. There continues to be a regrettable industry-wide lack of female representation, specifically in some disciplines including leadership and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) roles.

We promised last year to engage in several initiatives designed to tackle this, and we are seeing positive change as a result. We will continue to make a concerted effort to ensure the best possible female representation in the recruitment candidate pool. The best candidate will always be chosen, but greater representation increases the chances of improving our gender balance.

In summary, we continue to welcome the focus on this topic and more broadly believe every employee is entitled to an inclusive working environment that promotes dignity and respect to all, and one in which all employees are treated fairly and equally.
